Creating Compound Words with the THRASS chart

Here are compound words students created using the THRASS chart. It took awhile to get the concept that a compound word consists of two words and when combined, become a new word. For example: rain + bow = rainbow. Student could think of many compound words, yet needed to find ones from the THRASS keywords on the chart.

Students needed to put the grapheme of why the keyword in on the chart. For example: book has the oo grapheme for a vowel phoneme and worm has the or grapheme for a vowel phoneme.

They also needed to write their compound word into a complete sentence.
bull has the u grapheme and a vowel phoneme
dog has the d grapheme and is a consonant phoneme

 lighthouse
light has the igh grapheme and is a vowel phoneme
house has the ou grapheme and is a vowel phoneme
 snowball
snow has the ow grapheme and is a vowel phoneme
ball has the grapheme and is a vowel phoneme
catfish
cat has the c grapheme and is a consonant phoneme
fish has the f grapheme and is a consonant phoneme
