Word Study

Why do we have Word Study?

We study syllables to help us identify the vowel phonemes in words and to help us spell them. (Sophie)

Syllables help us break apart words to spell. (Brian)

We study words to help us make our stories more interesting. (Ronnie)

We study synonyms to help us learn new words which we can add to our writing. It can help us choose a more appropriate word. (Manan)

We first played Synonyms bingo and then chose a few words that we wanted to look up in the thesaurus and create at shades of meaning line up.

Here is Vivian's shades of meaning line-up for the word, "guess". She learned about the "speculate".

We are finding and writing compound words. After that, we wrote clever sentences using several compound words.
We are finding syllables in different words.
We are sorting words with the /a/ phoneme as in baby, tape, snail and tray from the THRASS chart.
